Remembering the Gold Rush
History Alliance

In the Summer of 1997, historians Jim & Lindy Miller and Henry & Kathryn Mace decided that California needed a truly authentic Gold Rush living history group -- dedicated to historical accuracy based on research into primary sources. By the time this picture was taken at the 1998 Sesquicentennial of Gold Discovery the group had grown to 25 individuals who had invested considerable time and money to assure that the people of our state would, for the first time, see the California Gold Rush as seen through the eyes of the people who lived it. Members of the Gold Rush History Alliance participated in 46 events throughout the state from 1997 to the year 2000.

With our mission completed, and with a plethora of wonderful memories in our hearts, the Alliance disbanded in 2001. We are forever grateful to the thousands of adults and children who visited our camps and presentations, and supported our cause over the years.

Many former Alliance members still participate in living history events at Marshall Gold Discovery State Park, Columbia State Park, and Sutter's Fort.

Jim & Lindy Miller now operate J.C. Miller Carpenter Shoppe in Columbia Historic State Park.

Kathryn & Henry Mace now live in the Los Angeles area, where Henry continues to author books on California history.
