The Gold Rush History Alliance

In the summer of 1997, historians Jim & Lindy Miller and Henry and Kathryn Mace met to discuss the need for a truly authentic living-history group, dedicated to historical accuracy based on research into primary sources, whose purpose would be to teach authentic Gold Rush history to California citizens during the then upcoming Sesquicentennial celebrations. By the time this picture was taken at the 1998 Sesquicentennial of Gold Discovery, the group had grown to 25 individuals who had invested considerable time and money to assure that the people of our state would, for the first time, see the California Gold Rush as seen through the eyes of the people who lived it.

Members of the Gold Rush History Alliance (GRHA) participated in 46 events throughout the state from 1997 through the year 2001. Then, with our mission complete and a plethora of special memories in our hearts, the Alliance disbanded in 2001. This page is dedicated to the former members of GRHA who gave unselfishly to the cause of authentic history--and to the thousands of adults and children who visited our camps and presentations and supported our cause during the Sesquicentennial of Gold Discovery and the Sesquicentennial of California Statehood.
